The Manhattan

40 ml RITTENHOUSE BONDED RYE
20 ml NOILLY PRAT ROUGE
dash NOILLY PRAT DRY
2 dashes MARASCHINO LIQUEUR
1 dash AROMATIC BITTERS
ORANGE BITTERS

Stir over cubed ice, double strain into a chilled coupette. Garnish with an orange twist and a cherry. A non-neon variety please (although they have their place – see Corpse Reviver No.2).

Making cocktails is not my hobby, it's work, so I read a lot, follow the news and innovations, tools, and also share my ideas, sometimes turning to essayelites.com so that you can see the result of my efforts. I’m always asked what my all time favourite drink is. It’s a problem question as with all favourite things, it depends on mood, setting, time of the day but despite that, the Manhattan probably takes it. It has endless variations too and works brilliantly with most dark spirits, you’ll just have to vary your vermouth and bitters accordingly. The recipe above is the one I’m enjoying the most at the moment.
